Applebaum Award: Application Information

Eligibility:

Senior essays submitted for consideration for the Applebaum Award must be based in some part on research done in the collections of the Yale University Library’s Government Documents & Information Center. The research material used must fall within the scope of one of the following collections:

  • United States federal government
  • Canadian federal government
  • European Union (note: this does not include government documents or information from individual member countries of the European Union)
  • United Nations
  • Food and Agriculture Organization

Research material within the scope of those collections may be held within the Government Documents & Information Center’s collections or may be available in digital format. Questions about whether particular research resources fall within the eligibility criteria should be directed to Julie Linden, Librarian for Political Science, International Affairs, and Government Information.

Only senior essays are eligible, not seminar papers or other papers written by seniors.

Essays may be submitted by seniors or their faculty advisors. Seniors who submit qualifying essays and their advisors will be invited to a reception in early May.

The winning student must agree to grant the library a non-exclusive right to post his or her essay on the library’s web site.

Submission process:

To submit an essay, e-mail it as an attachment to the Applebaum Award Committee.

Deadline:

Each academic department or program's senior essay deadline will serve as the Applebaum Award submission deadline for essays from that department or program.
