Results List: Help
A Search Results
list displays results from Subject, Author
(sorted by Name) or Author (sorted by Title)
searches from the Simple Search page in four columns. A search for Shakespeare
W in Author (sorted by name) and Author (sorted by title) displays the
following results:
Author (sorted
by name)

Author (sorted
by title)

The columns
in the Search Results List contain useful information:
- [#]
includes a sequential number and
.
When appropriate click on the icon to view other related search terms
or scope notes from author and subject authority records.
- [Titles]
indicates the number of catalog records for each search result.
- [Heading]
refers to the subject or author entered in the search (select to see
a Title List for that Search Result).
- [Heading
Type] reveals whether the subject heading is from the Library of Congress
or from another classification scheme, or whether the author heading is
a personal or corporate name.
Note:
A "0" (zero) in the Titles column means that no catalog records
use the heading; instead users should select
to learn the heading actually used for the relevant catalog records.

SEARCH,
NAVIGATION, and OUTPUT INFORMATION:
Several
lines of information relating to the search are displayed below
the button bar, and at the top and bottom of the Search Results
on the screen:
- Database
Name:
Most
catalog records display the name "Yale University Library"
- You
Searched:
A
description of the search is displayed after this label (e.g.,
Subject = alternative medicine, Author = chomsky noam). The
text before the = is the name of the search method used,
and the text after the = is the actual search performed.
- Search
Results:
This
line shows the number of currently displayed headings (e.g.,
Displaying 1 through 50 of 1743). Subject,
Author and Call
Number searches are set to "browse" the entire
Catalog for the search term entered and all terms following
in alphabetical order. Since this method does not create a distinct
record set, the number of search results displaying on each
page will state: Displaying 1 through 50 of 50. Select
"Navigation Icons" (see below) to move through the
catalog records.
- Navigation
Icons:
In
Search Results, it is possible to page forward and back,
one screen at a time, using the
and buttons.
- Print,
Save or E-mail:
The
only way to save or e-mail a Headings List display
is through the Web browser functions normally found under
the File menu.
