Title List: Help

A Title List like the one below results from Title, Journal/Newspaper/Magazine Title, Keyword, and Call Number searches if more than one record is retrieved. A Title List also appears when a line is selected from a Search Results List resulting from an Author (Sorted by Title or Name) or Subject search. Generally the order of a Title List is alphabetical by content of the first column. A Ranked Keyword search also displays results in a Title List, but the entries appear in order of importance to the search terms entered. For more information see Title List (Ranked Keyword).

Information displayed for the individual entries on a Title List:

Search Results

The first line of information for each title on a Title List gives three or four columns that describe the item: its author, title, publisher, subject or date of publication.  In a Ranked Keyword Title List, an additional column containing up to five colored circles - Relevancy Ranking circle denotes the degree of relevance of the records to the keywords entered.  To view bibliographic details and holdings information associated with a particular title from the Title List, click on the record number (#) or on any underlined text field, generally title and author. Brief View is the default record display. For more complete record details consult the Long View.

In the case of Title Lists resulting from Title and Journal Title searches, an additional column called “Full Title” gives the complete title for the item.  The phrase Location: Yale Internet Resource indicates titles that are available electronically. To access an electronic resource, click on the record for that title and you will find the link to the web version or electronic text from there.

Electronic Version link

The second line of information for each title entry on a Title List gives the name of the owning Yale library, the call number and the circulation status for the item. If Yale has more than one copy of the title, the Brief View or Long View record display should be consulted for complete location, call number and circulation status information. Also, if a title represents a multi-part set or serial, complete holdings and status information for the individual parts are only available from the Brief View or Long View record display. “Multiple Locations” and “Click title for status” on a Title List suggest clicking through to view the information on the individual record displays. If the status on the Title List displays as “No circulation status available”, or if “no information available” is displayed on the Brief View or Long View record, the volume should be on the shelf in its holding location, but it does not have a barcode, or its barcode is not in the system yet.

Sorting, navigating, refining searches and new search features from the Title List:

Title List entries may be resorted onscreen by author, title or publication date (earliest to latest, or latest to earliest) using the drop-down box.

Sort Results by

Additionally, a sort by relevance is available for Ranked Keyword Title Lists. See Sorting Help for more details. To move backward or forward in a Title List, click thePrevious and Next icons at the top or bottom of the page. To jump within long Title Lists without navigating page by page, a jump bar is provided. The maximum number of titles that display on a Title List page can be changed by selecting another choice from the “Records per page” drop-down box: 10 records, 25 records, 50 records or 100 records. The default setting is 50 records per page. If desired, a new search may be executed from the Title List display page by entering new search terms and choosing a search type in the search boxes at the top of the page. Search results on a Title List (resulting from any search type) can be further limited by clicking on the “Post Limit” button. See Search Limits for details.

To print/save/e-mail individual records: Any record may be selected from the Title List page for downloading/e-mailing/printing by clicking the box in the record number (#) column. Records selected from a single or successive Title List pages can be grouped together or an entire results set can be chosen for downloading/e-mailing/printing. See Print, Save, E-mail for details.
