A uniform title is the specific title by which all variations of a work that has appeared under varying titles and which has no identifiable author are to be referred to for cataloging purposes. A Uniform Title Main Entry search can be useful in finding such works. Examples include the Bible, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Epic of Gilgamesh, Aesop's Fables, the Arabian Nights, etc.. Example: a search for Beowulf yields this Search Results List:
Finding a particular edition of Beowulf, or a translation by a particular author, or a copy of the work in another language is much easier using the title list from a Uniform Title Main Entry search than it would be using the results of a "plain" Title search.
Note to librarians: The Uniform Title Main Entry search is restricted to the 130 MARC record field. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
