Yale University Library/WWW Workshop

Exercise three: Exploring the WWW

Subject Guides created by Yale Librarians are an excellent place to begin searching for useful research tools in many subject areas. All of the subject guides contain links to important Internet sites in that area, as well as print and non-print resources in Yale's collections. The URL for the Subject Guides list is http://www.library.yale.edu/pubstation/subjectlist.html, and they are available off of the top level of the Research Workstation.

If you would like to find other materials on the Internet, the third row of buttons at the top of the Netscape window lists a number of places to begin exploring for internet resources. If you do not see these buttons, these sites are also listed in the Directory menu.

You'll soon discover that there are all kinds of things lurking on the web--research tools, homebrew recipes, historical materials, and almost anything you can conceive. Many times you'll hear or read about a web site. You can also discover sites by using one of the various search tools available on the web.

For more information about using these search engines, consult the Yale University Library Tutorial on Internet Search Engines

Connect to one of the above search engines and see what kinds of resources you can find.

On to Exercise four: Keeping track of URLS.
