Text/SMS Messaging Reference Service
Text/SMS messaging service is limited to Yale faculty, students, staff, and alumni
and to those with questions specific to the Yale library, its collections and policies.
If you’re not affiliated with Yale, direct your chat question to your local public, state,
or academic library.
What is text/SMS reference?
Text/SMS reference allows you to ask a reference question via your handheld mobile
device if it has texting/SMS services available.
Just like sending a text message to
your friend, you can send a text/SMS question to a reference librarian and s/he will
respond with a text message.
How do I send a text/SMS message to the reference
desk librarian?
Each phone will be different, but start by using the text/SMS feature
of your mobile phone:
• Type 66746 for the number the message should be sent to
• In the message section, type Yalelib
• Type your question
• Hit send
• Wait for a reply
Should I always use text/SMS reference for my research questions?
No. Text/SMS reference is great for those short questions you may have.
However, when you need help with more in depth research it would be best
to use one of our other reference services posted here.
Is the service free?
The service is free. Standard text/SMS charges from your carrier apply.
