Reference tracking is a pilot study.
The poject is funded by a SCOPA grant. The
project interim report is now available.
Government Documents, Law, Medical, Social
Science and Research
Services and Collections are participating.
Participating
libraries are tallying patron transactions using a web form to track interactions,
capturing the date, time, duration,
location and type of question. (first picture)
Some service
points will test dedicated touch-screen devices as
input devices, including 3com Audreys (second picture) and Motion
Computing Tablet
computers.
The manual
for coding transactions (codebook) is based on the ARL definition of a
reference
transaction.
The codebook for this program is here.
This
data supplements the library's existing
reference sampling
program.
The law library has been using a similar system since 2003.
The web application
used for tallying is here [login required].
- when you login, you will see a tally screen for recording transactions
- this screen will show all of the transactions in your unit for today
- you will not see transactions from other units (e.g. Med will not see RSC tally)
- this page is available from any computer using your CAS login
- you will not need to login from an Audrey, just click the button with your netID
- if your Audrey appears to be acting up, try pressing the second button down on the right side; this should return
you to the reference tally page
Problems should be reported to your supervisor and to s.matheson@yale.edu.
