Demolition of the Cloak room in the Sterling Memorial Library

This temporary container near the Sterling Memorial
Library High Street entrance houses the construction
entrance to the area originally designed as a Cloak
room. Plastic sheets and a negative pressure
environment are used to contain dust created by the
demolition work.

Behind the three layers of protective sheets
and the construction door, demolition has
begun to remove ceilings and floors to
prepare for building a new staircase and
elevator.

The ceiling has been removed in the Cloak room.

The demolition of the ceiling required removal
of metal wire mesh and concrete.

The removal of the ceiling shows the steel beams.

Brick is being added to line the tunnel walls between
Sterling Memorial and Cross Campus libraries.

The entrance to the Cross Campus Library from the
tunnel is still very much under construction.

Studs have been installed for walls in the
Circulation office areas.

The central stairwell in the Cross Campus Library has
been poured. This shot shows one side of the stairs
between the concourse and lower levels.

This is another view of the central stairs under
construction on the lower level of the Cross Campus
library.

Framing for the book lift is in place on the lower
level of the Cross Campus Library.
