Readers' Guide Full Text and Readers' Guide Retrospective together offer comprehensive indexing and abstracting of some 375 of the most popular general interest periodicals published in the United States and Canada since 1890, plus the full text of over 120 of those periodicals from 1994 - present. They cover news, current events, and all subject areas, including business, fashion, politics, crafts, food, education, sports, history, and science. The abstracts average 125 words in length. Two types of abstracts are included. Informative abstracts convey the content, scope, and complexity of the source article, and are the predominant form used. Indicative abstracts describe the subject of the source article and are reserved for how to articles, humorous essays, personal accounts, and recipes. Full-text coverage begins in January 1994 for most titles.

A classified listing of journal articles and dissertations on American history followed by an author index. Citations selected primarily from Recently Published Articles, published by the American Historical Association. No bibliographies published for 1904-05, 1941-47.  Volumes to 1935 include books and articles on the history of the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Pacific Islands; from 1935 coverage includes only U.S. and its possessions. Inclusion of book citations was discontinued beginning with the volumes covering 1962-73. There is a cumulative author and subject index for 1902-1940. This title serves as the only significant indexing source in the field of American history prior to the publication of Historical Abstracts in 1955. The majority of journals indexed by Writings on American History are also indexed by Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life.

Arts and Humanities Citation Index (1975-)
An international interdisciplinary index to the literature of the arts and humanities, indexing the contents of about 6,100 journals, covering about 1,000 fully and about 5,100 selectively. It is an excellent source for locating book reviews published across the broad range of humanities literature. Locate reviews by searching for the author and title as a cited reference then limiting the result to book reviews.

Book Review Digest
An index to book reviews in several hundred popular, general interest, and scholarly periodicals, this title also reproduces sections of many of the reviews indexed. The word length of the review is also given -- a handy way to identify the core scholarly reviews.

It also contains the full text of the weekly Book Review (available on the web since January 5, 1997) as well as a feature called "Life and Times: Major authors, in their own words and ours," and selected first chapters from New York Times Book Review or New York Times bestseller list books. Note that these sites, while free, require registration.

Newspaper Holdings of the Yale University Library is a record of Yale Library holdings of newspapers in microform. This list does not include all of the newspapers to be found in the original, in reprints, or in facsimile in the SML stacks, in the Mudd Library, or in the Beinecke, though it does contain some of this material. Neither does it include all of the Underground Newspaper Collection (Film S618). It does include bound newspapers with a delta classification.

If we do not have a particular newspaper, you may be able able borrow it from another library via interlibrary loan. Check the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), WorldCat, and/or Borrow Direct.

Alternative Press Index and Alternative Press Index Archive is a guide to the alternative press in North America.

Factiva contains full-text of the Wall Street Journal and other business news.

Ethnic NewsWatch indexes newspapers and periodicals published by ethnic and minority presses of the Americas.

Keesings Records of World Events provides international news reports and resources to communicate with leaders around the world. Since 1931 Keesing's Record of World Events has provided objectively written news reports covering every significant event. Keesing's Record of World Events Online Archive consists of contemporary world history with original international news reports. Since 1758, The Annual Register has provided the authoritative history of each year's events worldwide by experts on every country and subject. Keesing's Directories cover world leaders, including contact information, detailed profiles and state structures.

Left Index is a guide to the literature on the left, with a primary emphasis on political, economic, social and culturally engaged scholarship inside and outside academia.
