The main section of the bibliography is a list or articles about individual authors arranged alphabetically by the authors. Periodicals Contents Index - PCI is an unusual, yet very useful, index for locating journal articles on literary topics. While the MLA covers 1963-present, PCI works backward from 1990 to the first issue of the journal. This makes it invaluable for locating articles before 1963 (and all the way back to 1770, in some cases). Citations only; no fulltext available.

Indexes a large number of important German periodicals, transactions, yearbooks, and other composite works. The usual arrangement is in two parts, the first being an index by broad subject headings, giving in each entry the article's title, its author when known, and the reference to the periodical; the second part is an author index to the subject index. Ergänzungsbände (supplements) carry retrospective indexing back to 1861. In 1965, the Bibliographie der deutschen Zeitschriftenliteratur was merged with Bibliographie der fremdsprachigen Zeitschriftenliteratur into the Internationale Bibliographie der Zeitschriftenliteratur. The book reviews, 1901-44, were indexed separately in Bibliographie der Rezensionen.
