  • Straits Settlements, 1838-1922 (inclusive). (London, England, Public Record Office. 517 reels) The Straits Settlements was the collective name for the settlements of Singapore, Penang, Malacca, and Labuan. Penang, Singaore and Malacca were established as the British crown colony Straits Settlements in 1867. Labuan became part of the Singapore Settlement in 1907, and became a fourth, separate settlement in 1912. The Straits colony ceased to exist in 1946. The records consist of 520 volumes of correspondence (1-520 of 665 volumes) relating to the Straits Settlements. For additional material on the Straits Settlements see GB CO537.
