Like the previous two editions (1967 and 1978), this bibliography is preceded by a theoretical section that outlines the historical development of German regional bibliography and the issues pertinent to their compilation. By adding materials acquired in the last twenty years, and including older bibliographies and other relevant listings, especially bibliographies and catalogs of regional newspapers, the bibliography now lists 515 titles, almost doubled from the previous edition. Following a short section of general bibliographies, the main entries, most of which are annotated briefly, are arranged alphabetically by region. This work is complete and extremely current. The indexes of persons, titles, selected subjects, and locations cover only the bibliography itself and not the theoretical section.
