Negative Masters
1) Just because we have a negative master, doesn't mean we ever ran a positive reading copy. This was never standard procedure. If you can't find another record for the positive copy, then we didn't.
(2) The Library will run a positive reading copy for a reader at no cost to him/her. Requests for this service are directed to Reproduction of Library Materials, a sub-section of the Interlibrary Loan office. Direct the person to Liz Johnson.[elizabeth.p.johnson@yale.edu / 432-8190]
(3) The book from which the negative master was made may also still exist. It's usually worth checking in the stacks to see if it was returned to the shelf after filming. A call number check in Orbis might also turn it up in Preservation.
When the Beinecke films printed materials, it sends the film to Preservation where it is spliced with other master negatives to form a complete reel. It is then cataloged and sent to SML, Microforms where it lives with a Master negative number. To service such film or provide a postive reel for sale, it is my understanding that patrons are directed to Liz Johnson in ILL (at least this is true for purchasing a copy.) I would assume that there must be a procedure in place in Microtext for creating a use copy for Yale patrons.
