Media Policies and Processes for the Frontlog

(Revised 09 Feb 2005)

Selectors place materials on labeled crates and metal book trucks in the "frontlog area" in Review Plaza.

A Monograph Support staff member picks up materials from the Review Plaza.

Cataloging Module:

  • Retrieve materials.
  • Scan barcodes assigned to piece(s) in hand.
  • Proof the title assuring the barcode is attached & linked to the correct piece in hand.
  • Click on icon Get MFHD (MARC Format HolDings)
  • Highlight In Process only.
    If an item has been previous cataloged:
    1. Charge the items out to the Priority Cataloging pseudo-patron.
    2. Place the item on the Priority Cataloging Shelves within Review
      Plaza.
  • Scan frontlog number (UNCAT12345 = the assigned "temporary" sequential call number system used to arrange books and media materials in this area).

Circulation Module:

  • Click Charge icon.
  • Type or scan patron ID barcode for the frontlog area (e.g.: FRONTLG123)
  • Scan the barcode affixed to piece(s) or item(s) in hand
  • Enter
  • Place materials onto a book truck from left to right in the sequential order

Repeat the process from the Cataloging Module to the Circulation Module.

Finally, after the step are completed materials are delivered and shelved in a locked caged area for Access Services, Acquisitions and the Cataloging Department to access.


FACTS:

CD-ROMs and DVDs going to the frontlog will have the last nine numbers of the assigned barcode numbers on their hub.

Media material will be in plastic cases but not security shells for their duration within the frontlog.


Any material accompanying a media item, such as user guides, brochures, ads or catalogs, will stay with the media material. If for any reason (such as artifactual value) the selectors wish to keep accompanying material with the media item, he/she must attach a note to that effect for Cataloging, Preparations and Collection Care.
