Biographical Information Resources for the Sciences

Biographical Information Resources for the Sciences
This bibliography is arranged in 4 sections (information on scientists; autobiographical sources; Internet-accessible sources; other suggestions). The emphasis in this guide has been on books and electronic reference sources. In the future, additional journal article-level entries may be added and Internet-accessible source links repeated alongside of similar print editions. An effort is made to not duplicate between categories. For sources logically fitting into more than one category, readers may assume the subject category prevails unless there has been a substantial accumulation of sources in its other scope.

II. Autobiographical resources

Autobiographical information for scientists tends to be more rare, often limited to anecdotal, manuscript material, or essays.

Sources for author searches include:
-library catalogs
in Yale's online library catalog, Orbis, try
k=autobiograph?
s=autobiography
(example)k=feynman richard

s=scientists--united states--biography
s=ethologists--biography

-National Union Catalog Pre-1956 Imprints and its supplements (Kline Science Library, Sterling Memorial Library)

IV. Additional suggestions
1 -Bio-base , a master index on microfiche to biographical sketches found in current and retrospective biographical dictionaries is an excellent starting point.

This resource is available at Kline Science Library, Microform Area, and at Sterling Memorial Library, Reference Desk area, and can also be searched online for a fee by a reference librarian.

2 - Index to Scientists of the World from Ancient to Modern Times: biographies and portraits,
by NO Ireland, (c1962), is another excellent starting point and
