Editor Help

You will be searching the Orbis OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog).

Books can be searched by exact title, keywords in titles, author/editor, and subject headings.

HINT: Editors of books and conference proceedings are searched as authors.

HINTS:

  • Subject searching: exact Library of Congress `Subject Headings' must be used -- they can be found in the big red volumes near the terminals. You may want to first search by keyword and then browse the assigned subject headings in resulting book records.
  • Conference titles are searched as authors.
  • Conference editors are searched as authors.
  • Individual conference papers can not be found in this book catalog, searching for the paper in one of the subject indexes.
  • Materials are shelved according to a subject arrangement known as the Library of Congress subject classification.
NOTES:

MORRIS, the catalog for the Law Library, can be used to locate books and journal titles from the Yale Law Library.

Books not found in ORBIS/OPAC may be borrowed through Borrow Direct, or may be verified/located in other online catalogs, grouped catalogs (Eureka, WorldCat), and/or in Books in Print online.

Journals not found can be confirmed in PubList and requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Also consider the Center for Research Libraries (CRL)
The CRL database is the online catalog of the Center for Research Libraries in Chicago. Its primary purpose is to collect those research materials not targeted by the North American research institutions. The Center collects heavily in the follow materials: archival materials, newspapers and periodicals (foreign & domestic, specialized), foreign doctoral dissertations, U.S. state documents, USSR Academic publications. The Center collects broadly in the following geographic regions: Africa, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. In addition, the Center collects any category of material, from any geographic locale, which is deemed important to scholarly research, but has not been acquired by other institutions. The Center's resources are available to Yale University faculty, staff, and students through the Interlibrary Loan Office (Sterling Library).
