GENERAL INTRODUCTION
The ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards identifies Standard One as the ability of users to define the information need. This series of lessons introduces users to a variety of concepts and ideas that fall under that standard.
Objectives
- Understand that information is everywhere and must be classified and organized to be used.
- Understand how to articulate a focused research question.
- Understand the distinction between and be able to identify primary, secondary, and tertiary sources.
- Understand the distinction between and be able to identify scholary and popular sources.
- Understand that non-peer-reviewed and other sources must be evaluated for scholarly value.
- Recognize that there could be barriers to locating information and that sometimes the information is not worth the time spent acquiring it.
