Lesson 1: The Information Cycle and Peer Review
Understanding the cycle of information can inform our understanding and evaluation of information. Having learned in Standard 3 Lesson One methods for recogizing primary and secondary information resources, this lesson describes other stages of the information cycle and how familiarity with it will help to undersatnd the information we encounter.
For ease of reading and comprehension, this lesson is divided into four (4) parts:
Part A: How to recognize peer review, its importance and what it means for evaluating resources.
Part B: The information cycle.
Part C: Distinguishing between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, and recognizes how location of the information source in the cycle of scientific information relates to the credibility of the information
Part D: Applying an understanding of the structure of a scientific paper and uses sections, such as the abstract or conclusion, to summarize the main ideas
