GENERAL INTRODUCTION

The ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards identifies Standard Four as the ability to understand the economic, ethical, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information and its technologies and to use information effectively, ethically, and legally. This series of lessons introduces users to a variety of concepts and ideas that fall under that standard.

Objectives: Readers of this section will -
  • Understand the economic, ethical, legal, and socio-economic issues related to using information.
  • Understand the seriousness of plagiarism and how to avoid it.
  • Be able to properly cite sources in a variety of formats.
  • Understand institutional and legal policies.
