The Kline Science Library is located in the basement of the
Kline Biology Tower, at the center of Yale's
scientific community, convenient to both its clientele and to the
other science libraries: Chemistry, Geology, Forestry, Mathematics,
and Engineering. There is little duplication of materials among the
science libraries. The Kline Library collects materials in the areas
of general science, biology, chemistry, physics, botany, zoology, and molecular
biophysics and biochemistry.
Kline Library provides access to many electronic journal
index databases; some are available only to those
affiliated with Yale, based on licensing provisions and YUL
privileges. Sample databases include Science Citation Index
which allows for sophisticated searching based on cited
journal articles, Biosis (Biological Abstracts); the Pollution
and Toxicology database which provides access to ten years of toxic substance and
environmental safety literature; and the Sigma-Aldrich Material Safety Data Sheets. The Current
Contents database, which indexes journal articles within one or
two weeks of receipt at the Library, is also available. The
science reference librarian can search hundreds of other
scientific databases for a fee.
