The science libaries encourage and support the utilization of knowledge management tools and techniques in order
to maximize the information discovered through the research process. Knowledge management encompasses the steps of
discovery, storage, organization, annotation, manipulation, repurposing, and crediting of information for personal
or organizational goals. Advanced tools allow for auto-discovery and auto-classification and retrieval of material by
artificial intelligence methods.
Technology can assist with knowledge management; however, critical thinking skills are required to effectively and efficiently
convert the information into domain-specific knowledge. Selected critical thinking skills are outlined on our
Library Instruction page.
We provide access to the web-based
RefWorks citation management software in which users can create their own personal research database of citations to books,
journal articles, and web pages, by importing references from online databases.
We also support (but do not provide) the EndNote citation management software. On the Library's
EndNote Help Page you will find:
- a description of the EndNote software
- import filters
- connection files
- schedule of EndNote training sessions
- answers to questions about using the EndNote software
Other tools exist which provide various KM capabilities:
Please visit this site again soon; more knowledge management tools will be added.
