How to fix the 3M security gate

1. Get a hinge pin from the drawer at the circulation desk. (The hinge pin is a silver metal pill that is a breakable metal hinge pin in the 3M security gate.)

2. Find a metal letter opener and a slim rod like instrument. These items may be found in the KSL jerryrig/repair kit located near Jonathan's desk. ( Your slim rod like instrument must be at least 5 inches long and have a diameter no greater then the hinge pin.)

3. Take the letter opener, the slim rod like instrument and the hinge pin over to the broken security gate.

4. Now you have to properly align the gate barrier and the gate post so that the two broken halves of the hinge pin are in line. You must use the letter opener to lift up the top part of the broken hinge pin. To do this you must insert the letter opener between the gap that separates the gate post from the gate barrier.

5. Once the two broken halves of the hinge pin are properly aligned. You must use the slim rod like instrument to dislodge the broken hinge pin. To do this you must insert the slim rod up through the hole where the bottom half of the broken hinge pin is seated. You may have to make several attempts before you can successfully dislodge both halves of the broken hinge pin from the gate.

6. After you have successfully ejected the broken hinge pin, insert the new pin into the pin hole. The new hinge pin should go all the way down until it rests in place at the bottom of the pin hole shaft. Once the pin is securely in place the process is done.
