Installing the Beilstein Commander 2000 - PC

The following is a version of David Waugh's Windows95/NT installation proceedure revised for Yale users.

Windows 95/98/NT

Note:  You will need the following information to successfully complete this installation and use Commander2000:

   User ID
   Password
   Group name

You should obtain this information from Jennifer Kostelnik (2-9519).

If you are unsuccessful with this installation, please contact Jennifer Kostelnik (2-9519).


1. Download the self-extracting file bc2000xf-winset.exe to a temporary directory on your hard drive.  By launching this file, the install program will be unpacked to a folder called BC2000XF-SET.

2. Run the setup.exe file located in the BC2000XF-SET folder.

3. If you have previous versions of Commander installed, the installer will remove them before continuing.

4. After the uninstall of previous versions is complete, the installer will continue. You can choose the defaults for file locations etc.

5. For upgrade installations, the installer has all the information it needs. For new installations, you will be asked for the following:

Host address: Beilstein.library.wisc.edu

Station ID: Enter anything you like. This is user defined.

License Group Name: Enter the group name for your university. You can obtain this information from Jennifer Kostelnlik (2-9519)

6. The installer now has all the information it needs. You may finish the installation.

7. You will be asked for your User ID and Password when you launch Commander and iniate a connection. You can obtain this information from Jennifer Kostelnlik (2-9519).

If you don't want to be prompted for the user id and password each time you use Commander, put a check in the box next to "remember the user id and password". You will be prompted for the profile password - not to be confused with the password for the campus user id. If you did not assign a password for the login profile, hit OK. If you did assing a password to the profile information, enter the password in the dialog box.


Known bugs

The structure editor does not close upon exiting Commander.
