CARL UnCover is now known as "ingenta"

CONNECT

ingenta covers both the popular magazine literature and the core research journal literature for many disciplines. The database includes approximately 15,000 journals from a consortia of libraries.

ingenta does not have exceptional depth in the science areas. The database does not include any subject headings or controlled vocabulary. Keyword searching is searching only title words (and infrequent abstract information). Author searches are not part of the keyword search approach.

The use of this electronic tool will not provide comprehensive coverage.

TIPS AND WARNINGS:

This tool can be used for free searching of table of contents from many journals, but it will not conect Yale researchers to the full text of materials, despite the "full text availability" link. For seamless connections to full text materials use the many Yale-sponsored index and abstract databases.

Non-Yale researchers located on campus may find additional free access to the following databases helpful: unlimited access databases

A word of caution to other users of the ingenta database:

"I was surprised to learn recently that UnCover does not index all authors of each paper, but has a 3-author per record maximum. I did some test searches, and found that it is not simply the first three authors listed on each paper, either, but apparently the 1st, 2nd, and *last* author! (I phoned UnCover's customer service to confirm this rather bizarre practice, but they weren't sure if it is always the case.) If there are more than 3 authors associated with a paper, the others are omitted from the citation.

This limitation is not mentioned in the UnCover User's Guide or in their promotional literature, but it's worth keeping in mind when searching."
