2001 SCOPA Grant
Digitization of Theater Materials
Pilot Project
FINAL REPORT
The goals for this project were to (1) survey theater-related visual materials
in collections around campus; (2) select items for digitization;
and (3) if possible, also selected a text for encoding into XML following Text
Encoding for Interchange guidelines.
Only the first goal was accomplished, because there is much more material and
at more locations than anticipated. Consequently, the survey was completed later
than expected (August 2001) and required more student work hours, exhausting
the SCOPA funds. Thus no money was available to actually digitize materials,
or to pursue text encoding.
The end product of the grant, then, was a database of collections with theater-related
visual materials, with many entries describing sample items.
I have not yet explored the possibility of making this database publicly searchable
(e.g., on the Web), but this may be of interest.
