SCOPA Meeting Minutes

June 7, 2006

 

1. Attendance

 

Present: Eileen Smith, Michael Forstrom, Marsha Garman (recorder), Kevin Glick, Este Pope,

Jennifer Krivickas, Cindy Roman, Camilla Tubbs, Andrew Gray (guest)

Absent:  Kelly Hovendick

 

2. Special presentation by Andrew Gray - Overview SML Lecture Hall PC/AV Equipment Set-up

 

3. Minutes

 

The minutes from our May 17th meeting were approved and will be posted to the Web.

 

4. Announcements

 

Guidelines for organizing a SCOPA forum were approved.  After the summer Web clean-up, we will decide where to post them on our Web site.

 

The Library Committee Fair will be held on June 15th.

 

5. SCOPA website update

Eileen handed out copies of the SCOPA Web site home page.  She assigned sections to various members and asked each member to check links within their section and report any that are not working, check for format problems, and read for content (updates, obsolete information, omissions, etc.).

Diane has asked for a letter of welcome from SCOPA to incoming professional staff. Eileen will write a draft and submit it to the committee by September.

 

6. Forums/Presentations

 

We will be responsible for a New Librarians Orientation, probably at the end of August, and will need to meet in early August to go over particulars.  Eileen would like our vacation schedules (July, Aug, Sept) in order to plan this event.

 

Marsha reported that attendance at the "Librarians Without Borders" forum was about 35 people.  Eileen concurred.

 

Camilla will check again on the Connecticut History Online forum.  She has had some problems with getting a confirmation from her contact.

 

Kevin reported that the Summer Films forum is scheduled for July 11th.  He is still trying to schedule a second film.  He has one in mind but it will need to be purchased.  Eileen asked that he send the URL to her.

 

Cindy will host the Access to Cultural Materials and Their Images forum the week of November 13th.

 

Sue Burdick will do a presentation for M&Ps Promotion Portfolio on September 28, 2006.

 

The Committee Participation forum will be held during the 4th week in October.  Este, Kelly, and Marsha will be working on this.

 

Michael will host a forum on Publication November 2 or 3.


Jenn will be hosting a forum on Volunteer Opportunities for Promotion Portfolio sometime during the first two weeks in September.

 

Kevin will host a Grants forum during the first week in December.

 

7. Sub-Committee Reports

 

Este has updated the Grants page on our Web site.

 

There are no new mentor/mentee requests

 

8. Ongoing Business

 

Eileen will reserve a room for Fall SCOPA meetings.  She asked if 3pm on Weds. works for everyone.  It was agreed it is the best time/day to meet.

She will reserve SML 410.
