SCOPA Meeting Minutes

October 4, 2006

3:00-4;15 p.m.

1.      Present: Eileen Smith (Chair), Kelly Barrick, Kevin Glick (recording), Jennifer Krivickas, Camilla Tubbs

2.      Absent: Michael Forstrom, Marsha Garman, Este Pope, Cindy Roman

3.      The minutes from the September 6 meeting were approved without objections

4.      Recording attendance:

·        Promotion planning for librarians on September 21 had 31 people

·        The IMLS grant workshop on September 25 had 19 people

·        Promotion planning for M&Ps on September 26 had 20 people

·        A need for counters was expressed by Camilla for the Annual Librarian’s Report to the Staff on October 11th, October 12th, and October 23rd. Camilla will post an email request for volunteers.

5.      Sub-Committee reports

·        Mentoring: An announcement on mentoring is in process and may be put out in time for the October 16th New Library Professional’s Orientation.

6.      New Librarians’ Orientation: October 16

·        Kevin will revise the menu from November 2005 according to the preferences expressed regarding that menu.

·        Eileen will bring a cookie platter

·        Eileen will bring water and juice from our supplies.

·        Kevin will create the name tags and packets for everyone. Any SCOPA member speaking should either send handouts to be printed by Kevin or bring copies to the orientation.

·        Kelly suggested a revision to the schedule of the orientation to accommodate the lunch portion of the orientation. The entire committee agreed to the change.

7.      Fall Schedule

·        Annual Librarian’s Report to the Staff (Camilla: October 11, 13, 23)

·        Committee Participation (Kelly (ALA) Marsha (non-ALA) Este (CT/NE): Oct. 25) Kelly is looking for another ALA speaker; the rest of the agenda is set.

·        Promotion forum with Diane Turner (Kelly : Nov. 1 & 6)

·        Professional Publishing (Michael : Nov. 3, 1 p.m.)

·        Grant writing at YUL (Kevin : Nov. 13th, 1:30 – 2:30, SML Lecture Hall) The committee discussed the nature of this forum and decided that it should focus on the grant process for YUL, perhaps including Amanda Patrick and Debbie McGraw, explaining how YUL staff should go through proper channels. Kevin will discuss the forum with Amanda Patrick.

·        Access to cultural materials and their images (Cindy : Dec. 8 in a.m.)
