SCOPA Meeting Minutes

Sept. 20, 2006

Present: Eileen Smith (chair), Kelly Barrick, Michael Forstrom, Marsha Garman, Jennifer Krivickas, Este Pope, Cindy Roman, Camilla Tubbs

Absent: Kevin Glick

1. Minutes from the Sept. 6 meeting were approved.

2. Meeting schedule: Those who had problems with our regular meeting time were able to adjust their schedules so that we may keep our scheduled time. Thanks!

3. Recording attendance:

            Sept. 14, 2006: Volunteering forum 10 attendees

4. IMLS Grant Workshop on Sept. 25:

            Twenty people have signed up for this all-day workshop. All preparations are in order. Cindy and Jen will be on-hand to help Eileen if needed.

5. New Librarians’ Orientation: October 16

            Eileen sent out the general invitation to all those on the list from Library HR. We divided up the names to call for individual invitations. Please send all RSVPs to Eileen by next Tuesday (Sept. 26). Eileen distributed the agenda for the day, listing who is responsible for talking (briefly!) on each topic.

6. Thinking of 2007

            Snapshot series: Beinecke JWJ Collection (“This collection was founded in 1941 by Carl Van Vechten as a memorial to Dr. James Weldon Johnson and celebrates the accomplishments of African-American writers and artists.”)

            Diane Turner liked this idea for a forum, and would like it to occur in February, to coincide with Black History Month. If Pat Willis (Curator) isn’t free to speak (hasn’t been contacted yet), Nancy Kuhl (Asso. Curator) already knows about this and is willing to speak.

7. Updating SCOPA web page

            The rest of the meeting was devoted to updating our web site.
