III. SCOPA Grants update
Manon gave a brief update on the grant process and the timetable. Call for new grants scheduled for November.

IV. Promotion Review Process
Lengthy discussion centered on the University Library Promotion Review Process. Most of the discussion centered around the question, "Are the university standards at Yale changing, and if so, how best to communicate these changes to the librarians?" Other related questions/issues under discussion -- Are open forums needed, when and by whom, to keep librarians informed of expectations; What constitutes an acceptable level of professional involvement in external professional organizations; Is the University documentation of promotion guidelines outdated, or too vague; Is an appeal process needed, and, Are workshops which focus on "the presentation of self" needed for professional librarians at Yale. No recommendations were arrived at; further discussion tabled until next SCOPA meeting.

Next SCOPA meeting scheduled for August 8, 1997.
