Grant Program update
Chris reported that Gillian is contacting Lou to clarify matters related to granting extensions to grant recipients. The 1997 final reports are almost all up on the web and she is working on arranging for an April forum at which the 1997 grant recipients will report on their projects.
Bill added that the up-to-date information on SCOPA activities, incl. minutes, is now on the web. More links to web resources have been added and structural and cosmetic changes have been made.
It was noticed that there is currently no existing link to SCOPA's web page in the library web site. Bill will contact the Webmaster to make the addition.
Suzanne reported on her initial contacts with Librarian-in-Residence,
Ethelene Whitmire, who will present a paper on developing critical thinking skills. Suzanne will work with her to set a date, possibly in late April or May.
Suzanne and Diane Goldenberg-Hart are working on arranging a forum on the ITS Faculty Support Program. Bill Fray noted that the Law School has its own program. SCOPA members discussed learning more about such
"stand-alone" programs. Suzanne will contact Beth Bowden at the Law School to learn more about their program and whether a discussion of it should be included in the forum on the ITS FSP.
Chris reported that there will be a forum, jointly sponsored by SCOPA and M&PSA, at which Michael Morand (Office of New Haven Affairs) will speak about Yale's initiatives in the New Haven Community. The event is scheduled for 5/7/98 at 9:30 a.m. Chris is working on two other forums: one on the library as a learning organization, and one on plans for the university tercentennial.
Bridget reported that she has invited Louise Blalock, director of the
Connecticut Center for the Book, to address a forum about the Center's work.
Xin shared her e-mail exchange with Max Marmor regarding inviting Dean Benson to give a talk. SCOPA discussed forum details. Xin will continue her work based on the suggestions.
SCOPA members agreed that it would be of general interest to hold a forum on the work of Yale University Press and its relationship to the Library. Bridget volunteered to take the lead in setting up the forum.
The next meeting is scheduled to take place on April 2, 1998
