SCOPA meeting

Minutes
In attendance: Suzanne Eggleston, James Shetler, Diane Turner,
Christine Weideman (recording)
Absent: William Fray, Gillian Goldsmith, Xin Li
December forums:
Jim Shetler will update the calendar to reflect the December forums. Chris
Weideman will send out a message next week to YULIB about the December forums.
1999 forums:
E J Josey will address a SCOPA forum on February 25, 10:00am, on minority
librarians in academic libraries. Jim Shetler will handle arrangements.
At 9:30am that same day, there will be a small reception in the Memorabilia
Room for University of Pittsburgh Library School alums to meet with Josey.
Loise Blalock, of the Connecticut Center for the Book, will address a SCOPA
forum in February on the work of the Center. Tentative date is February
10th; Suzanne Eggleston will contact Bridget Burke to arrange for the forum.
Possible 1999 forums:
Xin Li will contact Morris Cohen, emeritus professor of law and retired law
librarian, and invite him to give his lecture, "Printing the Law," at a
SCOPA forum. If Cohen is agreeable, Xin will try to arrange the forum for
the third-fourth weeks of January, 1999.
John Ryden, Yale University Press, on trends he has observed in the
publishing industry.
Anthony Ricci, on the research and publication of his book on the Boston
Italian community.
Social Sciences Library director.
Medical Library director.
AUL for technical services.
Renovations around the library system.
The Library Shelving Facility.
The library as a learning organization.
SCOPA Grants:
The grants subcommittee met and reviewed the six applications. Letters
will go out to the applicants on December 15. Prior to that, drafts of the
six letters will be circulated for review by SCOPA members. Gillian
Goldsmith will prepare further analysis of past grant cycles for LMC.
Last meeting of the year:
Diane Turner will arrange a meeting between December 16 - December 23 at
which newly appointed SCOPA members will be welcomed and a new chair
appointed.
