SCOPA Meeting Sept. 19, 1997
Present: Nicole Bouche (chair), Chris Weideman, Andrea Lamb,
GillianGoldsmith, Diane Goldenberg-Hart (recording), Diane Turner,
Fred Musto
Absent: Bill Fray, Manon Theroux
1. Announcements:
M&PSA will host a new staff reception; SCOPA/Library
Administrative Services will co-organize an orientation program for
new professional staff.
2. Committee survey -- Gillian
Gillian distributed printouts of her web pages to the group and asked committee members to proof-read her work for typographical errors. Before asking LMC to review the web pages, Gillian will ask information providers to verify the information on the site, she will add a "last updated" statement to each page, and she will spell out acronyms (acronyms will follow full committee names in parentheses). Subcommittees will not be listed on the front page of the site, but rather on each committee's individual page.
3. Web Page update -- Diane G-H
Calendars are up through May 1998; all SCOPA members have access to these files and can edit them, or they can request that Diane G-H make changes. Other improvements, as discussed at the last SCOPA meeting, continue.
4. Program calendar
Manon continues to work on planning the editorial projects.
Paul Conway's video showing (Fred) -- Paul is looking into a facility for the showing, possibly for November. There was some discussion regarding how the program would be organized, and if any speakers, such as Dan Updegrove from ITS, would be invited to comment.
Special Collections Fora "Trilogy" (Chris) -- The 1st program in this series, the fair, will be on Dec. 12, 2-4p.m., in the Library Lecture Hall; coffee, tea and cookies will be served. The 2nd program will be in January, and the 3rd in March.
Finding Aids presentation (Nicole) -- will happen sometime in early November.
Max Marmor and the Dean of A&A -- Fred will follow-up on setting up a program.
Scott's presentation re. promotion/review is on LMC's agenda -- October is the target for this program.
5. Mentoring -- Nicole and Chris
There were 11 written responses to SCOPA's call for comments on this issue, and Nicole reported that several staff members expressed their thoughts to her in person. The general feeling is that there is a need and an interest in this at all levels. The mentoring sub-group has met, and they will meet with LMC in 2 weeks. There is a concern about the relationship between mentoring and supervisors' roles.
