Goldsmith, James Shetler, Xin Li (Minutes taken by Gillian Goldsmith)
Absent: Bill Fray
1. All members should review this year's calendar on the Web site and make sure it's accurate.
2. Chris will send out a message today about the upcoming October activities: John Ryden, Yale University Press; New Librarian Orientation; Poster Sessions.
3. The committee discussed the New Librarians Orientation. This year SCOPA will continue using the previous year's agenda. First year SCOPA members should note any aspects which do not run smoothly and make the appropriate changes next year.
4. For Anthony Riccio's November forum, we are not trying to promote his book. SCOPA will advertise and present this forum as a case study in how to conduct interviews, how to get a book published, and preserving his photographs and interviews in an archives.
5. Gillian will speak to Nancy Roderer about setting a date for a forum before she leaves Yale.
6. James will speak to Dan Chudnov about his idea for a forum on the DubMed project. He will report back by our next meeting.
7. Bridget Burke has reported that the forum involving the Connecticut Center for the Book cannot take place this year, but may be a possible future forum.
8. The idea for a Library as a Learning Organization forum will be put on hold until next year.
9. Other posible forums include: Library Construction Projects (Music, Divinity, Law, A&A), Phase 2 of the Rennovation, LSF, and What's Happening in Systems.
10. LMC is examining the amount of funds allocated for the SCOPA grants program. They have asked SCOPA to provide information on how much has been spent in the past and SCOPA will begin discussions about how to provide the information at its next meeting.
The next SCOPA meeting will be on October 15, immediately following the New Librarians Orientation at around 11:00.
