SCOPA Meeting Minutes
November 12, 2001

Present: Ellen Doon (Chair), Pamela Mann, Richard Boursy, Cynthia Crooker, Rochelle Smith, Todd Fell (recording)

Forums
Librarians without Borders forum went well; well attended. Several of those who attended suggested that there should be more of these particular forums.

There are now forums scheduled for every Tuesday for the next month, beginning with the Orbis 2 Update forum on November 20.

The others are: Jock Reynolds, "To Conserve a Legacy" - November 27 "EZ Access to electronic resources at Yale" - December 4 Kris Hammond, "Intelligent Information Labs" - December 11

Other forums to be scheduled for spring.

Paper History forum cancelled for now, as the topic of Chinese paper too narrow; a broader topic was suggested to Elaine Koretsky, but no reply has yet been received.

The next Librarians without Borders forum will be held in either January or February, depending upon availability of dates. Tanja Lorkovic and Rich Richie will be the featured speakers. Rochelle will coordinate the exact scheduling.

Todd has not received any replies concerning the Scholarly Editing forum.

Hugh Cobbe's dates of availability have not been confirmed; two dates to be proposed. Todd will coordinate the scheduling.

Grant forum slides will be on the web-site soon.

There has been no word from Marsha Garman about the Powerpoint presentations from the Digitial Projects Symposium. Ellen will contact her again about putting these up on the Symposium Web page, which is hosted by the Systems Office.

Grants
Cindy: two grant proposals were received. The committee will meet November 13th to decide.

Documenting Professional Activities Beyond SCOPA Publications Page
Goals Groups may be moving towards similar projects to document professional activities. A Staff Profiles site has been suggested by one of the groups; a database of staff expertise has been discussed as well. Such projects may be broader than SCOPA's responsibilities; there is a possibility of having a library-wide page documenting the activities of all staff, not just librarians. For instance, the existing STOD/Human Resources "each one teach one" database may broaden to take on some of what SCOPA has been discussing concerning professional activities. SCOPA will wait and see what happens with these projects, and then determine if there is still a need for separate documentation of the activities of librarians.

Other Business
Todd showed an e-mail he received from Uju Mollel, who was writing on behalf of the M&PSA Nooks and Crannies Tours. Uju asked if SCOPA would be willing to collaborate with M&PSA for a tour of the New Haven Public Library in the spring. Ellen added that this tour could be planned to coincide with having the Librarian of the New Haven Public Library speak at a forum. Todd will contact Uju to say that SCOPA would be interested.

The subject of scheduling a transition meeting for SCOPA was discussed. Ellen said she would speak with Diane Turner to determine a date, hopefully before the end of the year.
