Forums
There will be two forums this week. As a general rule, SCOPA tries to avoid scheduling two activities in the same week, but this was unavoidable. The first is an Orbis2 update and the second is Hugh Cobbe from the British Library speaking on the acquisition of music materials.

Two other forums are actively under development: another installment of the Librarians without Borders series, and a reschedule of Kris Hammond. Other forums that will happen, but have yet to be scheduled, are an address by Barbara Shailor and an update about the library from Alice Prochaska. SCOPA members made suggestions about ideas that merit development into a forum. Stephen will pursue an idea to hear from librarians who work in other academic libraries in the area such as at Quinnipiac College or Southern
Connecticut State University. Todd will pursue the idea to hear from James Welbourne, the new director of the New Haven Free Public Library. Jae will pursue asking Richard Brodhead to speak about curriculum changes at Yale.

SCOPA discussed the idea that when a topic has multiple viewpoints, it should strive to present all sides, not only to give a fair picture, but to promote lively discussion. Jae encouraged all SCOPA members to keep their eyes open for ideas for future forums.

As the next regular meeting will fall on a holiday, it was rescheduled for Thursday, January 24 at 9am. Location TBA.
