Announcements
Jae will be away from October 16-Novemebr 4. The October 24 and November 4 SCOPA
meetings are cancelled. Next SCOPA meeting is scheduled for November 18, 2-3.
Forums
Jae reminded everyone that there are holes in the forum schedule for the next
few months. She encouraged everyone to communicate via email and schedule forums
when the opportunity arises.
SCOPA members developing forums gave updates on their progress:
Jae reported that the forum Rochelle had been working on, Librarians without Borders was postponed, as one of the participants had not made the trip he will report on.
David Stern asked if SCOPA is interested in hosting a forum by Susan Clopper regarding corporate and academic librarianship. Steve will contact David Stern and try to schedule Clopper for October.
The talk by Tatana Kellner, which is co-sponsored by SCOPA, is scheduled for Nov. 5 in AOB 3-4:30 and the School of Art at 5pm.
Stephen is continuing to develop a forum with librarians from the New Haven area.
Cecile asked Fred Musto to present his paper on "Cartographic Curiosities." He suggested she ask Abe Parrish to present a forum.
Mary scheduled Kevin Glick to present a forum on issues surrounding electronic archiving. The forum is scheduled for Nov 20, 3-4.
Todd suggested two forums: John McCrillis and workplace ergonomics. Jae will ask John McCrillis if he can speak in Oct. Todd will contact STOD to make sure they do not have something about workplace ergonomics already planned.
Jae suggested a series of forums designed to introduce library staff to departmental and other libraries. She will check past forums and talk to Diane about developing this idea.
Orientation
Mary reported on the feedback culled from the survey included in the last New Librarians Orientation. Most of the ratings were good to excellent. One respondent especially appreciated the friendliness of SCOPA members. Aspects of the orientation cited as most useful included the LHR (Diane Turner) and library committees presentations. One respondent suggested reducing number of handouts. Overall, feedback was very positive.
Grants SubCommittee
Richard announced that this year's grant application reviewers from LMC are
Danuta Nitecki and Katherine Haskins.
