YUL History Forum: Judy Schiff gave a presentation on the history of YUL on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 from 10:30 to 11:30 in the SML Lecture Hall
It was suggested that thesubject would be an excellent topic for an online exhibit. The committee agreed, and there is the possibility this idea will be submitted as a SCOPA grant proposal.
Copyright Forum: The YUL Copyright Forum was held on May 12, 2003 from 2 to 3 pm in the SML Lecture Hall.
ELI Project: Karen Reardon has reserved the Lecture Hall for a May 27th presentation on this project. Stephen will contact Karen for a blurb describing the talk for promotional purposes.
SCOPA Grants: Eric asked for inclusion of the June 2nd SCOPA Grants forum when Mary posts the announcement for the May forums.
Matthew Beacom: Daniel contacted Matthew and set October 23rd as the date for his talk on international cataloging standards.
Progressive Librarian: Nancy reported on her contact with Mark Rosenzweig of the Progressive Librarian. Mark is willing to speak at Yale, and Nancy will follow-up with him on scheduling a forum for late September or early October.
Lorna Peterson: We discussed the possibility of Lorna Peterson, a library science professors at the University of Buffalo, to talk about African Americans in Library History. It was suggested that this forum be considered for next February. Nancy will do some further investigation.
Velvet Underground: Marvin Taylor has written an article on collecting for the Downtown Collection at the NYU Fales Library, and the committee discussed him as a possible speaker.
Library School Forum: Continued discussion on possibility of a reception co-sponsored with the new staff association (M&PSA), Stephen will investigate this proposal.
New AUL: We talked about a fall forum for the in-coming AUL for Technical Services. The forum will be arranged once the new AUL has been hired. The idea for an AUL panel discussion was also raised and is a possible Spring ‘04 forum.
Librarians without Borders: Cecile will take the lead on organizing another session highlighting the activities of librarians traveling overseas for work or professional outreach.
Our next scheduled meeting is for June 9th. The committee with then take a break from meeting for July and August, and rely on e-mail, unless circumstances warrant otherwise.
