Eric reported that he had received four grants proposals. The Grant subcommittee and LMC advisors (Carol Jones and Bobbi Pilette) are scheduled to meet to review the proposals on Monday, Dec. 1st, from 10 to 11 AM in SML 410. The winning proposals will be announced before the Christmas break.

Cecil announced that she had a recent request for a mentor. The mentoring program has three applicants this year.

Dec. 11, 11 - 12:30 PM

OACIS (Online Access to Consolidated Information on Serials) project.

In addition, Mary is trying to schedule the Promotion Review Informational meeting in December.

Additional forums ideas suggested and discussed:

Digital Landscape Survey project, sponsored by the Office of the Provost.

Grace Agnew, the Associate University Librarian for Digital Library Systems at Rutgers University Libraries on Digital library initiative.

Stephen Carter, William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law at Yale Law School, to talk about ethics.  He authored the book “Civility: manners, morals, and the etiquette of democracy”

Robert Milevski, an expert on various kinds of fine binding and finishing, to give a talk about Riverside Press. He is currently at Princeton and can easily come for the day.  Mary said that if we could invite him to come in late January, it would help the transition and also take the pressure off new committee to schedule something immediately.

Library school symposiums forum and Librarian Without Borders forum with Tanya Lorkovic’ and Rich Richie were being considered for 2003 but postponed for the next year.

Mark Rosenzweig forum on Progressive Librarian has not been rescheduled yet.

ANNUAL REPORT:

Mary reminded the chairs of the Subcommittees (Grants, Mentoring, Orientation, Publications, and Website) to send reports to her by Tuesday, Dec. 2.  The information will be incorporated into the Annual Report and submitted to Alice at the end of the year.

TRANSITION MEETING:

The transition meeting is scheduled for December 15, 12:30-1:30 in SML 411. The meeting will include current SCOPA members, the newly appointed members, Diane Turner and Alice Prochaska.  The meeting agenda will include an oral report from Mary, official induction of new members, and regular meeting of continuing and new members.  Coffee and desserts will be provided.

OTHER TOPICS:

The issue whether the SCOPA Publication subcommittee should also publish writings of the C&T staff was discussed. It was agreed that the “Library Links” is probably the right place to publish it.  “LISA” maybe the other option.  Mary will discuss the matter with Jessica Linicus and LISA.

A question was raised as to who should update all Standing Committees’ information on website. Since the Standing Committee lists are kept in the library administration’s website, it is not SCOPA’s responsibility to update them.

NEXT MEETING:

The next meeting will be on Dec. 15 at 12:30 in Room 411.

Respectfully submitted,

Huei-Ju (Polly) Chang
