SCOPA meeting minutes, Oct. 6, 2003

GRANTS:

Committee members were asked to spread the word about applying for a SCOPA grant before the November 1 deadline.

FORUMS:

The following forum dates and times have been confirmed:

Nov. 6 – 2PM – Marvin Taylor

Nov. 13 – Meg Bellinger

Dec 4 – 2PM – Frank Turner

Dec 11 – 11-12:30 – OACIS project

The Mark Rozenzweig forum has not yet been rescheduled. It was postponed due to the strike.

Additional forums ideas were discussed.

ORIENTATION FOR NEW LIBRARIANS:

The Orientation for New Librarians is scheduled for October 24^th from noon to 1:30 in the Spoon, with an additional ½ hour reserved for socializing, as per a suggestion from the last orientation.

Several changes were made to the draft agenda. Certain topics were combined and one topic was deleted (SCOPA Charge and Programming à “Orientation for New Librarians”). The Learning Plan has been added to Diane Turner’s portion of the presentation. An M&PSA representative will not be invited to the Orientation, since the organization has changed its scope and will be introduced to new staff during the regular New Staff Orientation. Eric will send out a timed agenda to speakers, and Shawn will create nametags and place cards for the event. Eric also requested that members show up a bit early to help with set-up and make sure packets are ready for attendees.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be scheduled for Oct 20^th at 2PM to finalize any orientation issues or other SCOPA issues. The following meeting will be Nov 3^rd.

Subcommittees’ chairs were asked to start gathering data for the annual report, which is to be presented at the end of the year.
