Draft SCOPA Minutes for February 16, 2004

Respectfully submitted by:  Soraya Magalhaes-Willson

In Attendance:  Carla Heister, Polly Chang, Shawn Steidinger, Nancy Kuhl (Chair), Soraya Magalhaes-Willson, Rowena Griem.

Absent: Daniel Dollar.

1.  New Librarians Orientation currently scheduled for this semester may be cancelled.  Shawn is reviewing notes from previous committee meetings to verify whether 5 members must be in attendance to hold an orientation; Shawn will confer with Diane Turner.   Possible meeting for Fall, 2004, will be considered.  Orientation sub-committee will need to confer with Shawn before the end of the semester about procedures to set up meetings such as develop agenda, arrange for food delivery, reserve Sterling Spoon.

2.  Committee discussed SCOPA and All-Staff Inclusiveness in charge and activities, and considered many issues, possible changes, and questions. Generally group felt that we were not providing enough forums of interest to our Clerical/Technical/Managerial Staff, need staff to indicate interests. The committee will continue this discussion with Diane Turner at the next meeting.

Regarding “What is SCOPA?” webpage: the committee discussed the possibility of revising the statement about SCOPA. Nancy will work on SCOPA description/charge.  Confer with Nancy about your suggested changes for the description that take into account all-staff inclusiveness.

Recent publications page will be updated by Soraya to include Yale Library Staff and amend the criteria to guidelines for submission. Problem raised regarding changing staff, scholarly works, or academic research in other areas.  Perhaps a Yale Library Publications in Literary Works/Fiction, professionally published works, may be of interest.

4.  SCOPA Meeting Maker for Forums, a $40 cost will be available shortly.  It will proxy committee members via Diane Turner and will be color-coded for scheduling status identification.
