SCOPA Meeting Minutes
January 22, 2004
Present: Nancy Kuhl (chair), Rowena Griem (recording), Huei-ju “Polly” Chang, Daniel Dollar, Shawn Steidinger and Michael Strom
Absent: Carla Heister, Soraya Magalhaes-Willson
NEWS AND NOTES:
Michael announced that he has accepted a job offer from another institution. Someone new will be appointed to SCOPA in his place.
GRANTS SUB-COMMITTEE:
Polly has agreed to act as the chair of the Grants Sub-Committee for the coming year in Michael’s stead.
Michael announced that 2003 SCOPA Grant recipients should be sent emails reminding them of the approaching deadline for their final report and that they are expected to participate in a SCOPA Grants Forum planned for April.
Nancy asked that recent grant recipients be invited to give a short report on their projects to the Library Management Council. This is now scheduled for Wednesday, March 24, at 9:30 am. The Grants chair will introduce and describe the SCOPA Grants program.
NEW LIBRARIANS’ ORIENTATION:
Shawn will contact LHR to check on whether there are enough newly hired librarians to warrant a New Librarians Orientation session in the near future.
GUIDELINES FOR FORUMS:
The goal is to organize two SCOPA forums per month during the spring and fall
semesters.
Nancy pointed out that the names of possible speakers who
are not from Yale should be submitted to Diane before they are officially
invited. Once invitations are extended, 3 or 4 dates should be proposed
to find the most convenient date. Call x21810 to reserve Sterling Lecture
Hall. Be sure to mention computer or
other audio-visual needs.
Invitations to out-of-town speakers should mention that our budget is limited,
so we are unable to pay an honorarium but will reimburse the speaker for travel
costs. Nancy will forward committee
members a sample invitation.
