UPDATE ON POSSIBLE FORUM ON THE ANNA-AMALIA LIBRARY FIRE:

Rowena reported on discussions with Ron Patkus, Vassar Librarian and founder of the American Friends of the Anna Amalia Library on a possible forum on the historic library, the fire and resulting losses, and recent fundraising efforts to benefit the Anna-Amalia.  The committee concluded that it was unable to fund a trip by the Director of the Anna-Amalia to the U.S.  SCOPA will try to arrange for Patkus to speak instead.  Should a representative from Germany visit the area on his own, SCOPA could extend an invitation for him to speak.

NEW LIBRARIANS ORIENTATION:

The committee discussed the upcoming New Librarians Orientation.  Carla will act as Orientation Chair, and Diane Turner, Nancy, Polly and Rowena will help conduct the Orientation.  The assigned sections are:

·        Carla: SCOPA Mentoring Program, Communications at YUL, Closing & Evaluation Form

·        Diane Turner: Professional Service and Professional Development, Library Governance

·        Nancy: SCOPA General Programming

·        Polly: SCOPA Grants Program

·        Rowena: Recent Publication of Yale Librarians, Library Committees

Carla, Nancy, Polly and Rowena will arrive at 11 a.m. to set up the meeting room.  Carla reported that she has ordered the food and reserved a room.  She will also make copies of the evaluations and find copies of the “Guidelines for Committee Participation” brochures.  Nancy will bring information about the Library Associates program and put together the agenda.  She will email a draft of the latter to the group on Tuesday, Oct. 12, for any comments, corrections or additions.  Rowena will make nametags, assemble the packets, and talk to the one person who has not responded to the invitation.

NEXT MEETING:

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 25, 1:30-2:30 pm in SML 410.
