New Library Professionals Orientation Procedures - Human Resources will keep track of Librarian and Library Manager hires and inform SCOPA chair and SCOPA Orientation Coordinator of each new hire.
- When the number of potential attendees reaches at least five (5), a session will be scheduled taking into account the start dates of the new library professionals.
- If the total of new library professionas does not reach five (5) before six months have passed since the previous orientation, a session will be scheduled anyway.
- Each new librarian will be invited by a SCOPA member, preferably in person, or via phone or e-mail. A reminder e-mail will be sent by the Orientation Coordinator shortly before the session and will include a link to the SCOPA orientation web page.
- Orientation will include discussion of the following topics. Each topic will be explained by a SCOPA member, Director, Library Human Resources, or other orientation presenter.
- Introduction of orientation participants. SCOPA members will describe their duties.
- Lunch/ Social time
- Travel funding - Director, Library Human Resources
- Performance review & Self-evaluation - Director, Library Human Resources
- Promotion process - Director, Library Human Resources
- Library Governance - SCOPA member & Director, Library Human Resources
- Library Committees - SCOPA member
- YUL Communications - SCOPA member
- YUL Publications - SCOPA member
- LiSA - LiSA member
- Ideally the session will include food (preferably lunch) and time for socializing. If possible, the session should be scheduled to have social time and food first, with presentations to follow. If the social/food component is scheduled first, formal introductions must be made before eating.
- A package of information will be assembled for each new librarian in attendance. Electronic information will be posted on the SCOPA web site, with the URL for this page on the printed agenda. Other brochures will be given in paper form to the new librarians. The package should include, but is not limited to:
- Agenda (including appropriate URL's)
- SCOPA brochures (and URL)
- LiSA
brochures (and URL), if available
- Nota Bene
- Library Associates pamphlet
After the session, the URL for the SCOPA orientation page, as well as any other pertinent information, will be e-mailed to the participants. |
