Anna (1730-1740)
In 1730 the Council offered the throne to Anna, Duchess of Courland and daughter of Tsar Ivan Alexeyevich, Peter I’s half-brother. Anna's reliance on her German entourage from Courland (Latvia) made her unpopular with the court elite.
