History of the Jews in Imperial Russia and the USSR

Periodicals, newspapers and monographs concerning Jews in the former Russian Empire and the USSR (including Ukraine, Byelorussia, the Baltic Republics and a number of Polish provinces formerly part of the Russian Empire). Collection titles range from biographies of Zionist leaders born in Russia to Yiddish proverbs and folklore; Jewish newpapers and magazines (in Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian); documents related to the Jewish labour movement and trade unions in Russia, Poland and Lithuania; extracts from Russian laws defining the status and rights of Jews; miscellaneous literary works; and description of Hebrew manuscripts from Russian libraries and private collections.

Scope: 198 titles.

Yale owns all 4112 microfiche of the collection. Scholars may consult these sources in the Microtext Reading Room, which is in the basement of Sterling Memorial Library.
