Periodicals, newspapers and monographs concerning Jews in the former
Russian Empire and the USSR (including Ukraine, Byelorussia, the Baltic
Republics and a number of Polish provinces formerly part of the Russian
Empire). Collection titles range from biographies of Zionist leaders born
in Russia to Yiddish proverbs and folklore; Jewish newpapers and magazines
(in Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian); documents related to the Jewish labour
movement and trade unions in Russia, Poland and Lithuania; extracts from
Russian laws defining the status and rights of Jews; miscellaneous literary
works; and description of Hebrew manuscripts from Russian libraries and
private collections.
Scope: 198 titles.
Yale owns all 4112 microfiche of the collection. Scholars may consult
these sources in the Microtext Reading Room, which is in the basement
of Sterling Memorial Library.
