Russian History and Culture is a microfiche collection of scarce books selected
from the Helsinki University Library's 300,000 volume Russian collection. The
Library was an official depository of Russian books from 1820-1917 and has the
richest collection of nineteenth- and early twentieth- century research materials
outside of the former Soviet Union. The collection is being released in units
of approximately 100-150 volumes each. The completed collection will provide
a valuable research course of books previously unavailable or not readily available
in North America.
Published indices for the all released units of the microfiche collection can
be used in the Slavic Reading Room, Sterling Memorial Library Room 406 [Z2509
+R873 1988 (LC)]. These indicies are organzied by author, title, subject, and
fiche number. The microfiches themselves are held in the Microform Reading Room,
Sterling Memorial Library.
