Books may also be renewed by presenting them at the circulation desk.
RETURNING LIBRARY MATERIAL
When the library is open, material must be returned to the circulation desk.
The book drop located on the porch of 124 Prospect Street may be used for the
return of items when the library is closed. Material belonging to other Yale
libraries will be delivered to the appropriate library. Patrons are responsible for
all materials charged out until they are discharged.
OVERDUE MATERIAL
Printed receipts distributed at the time of borrowing are the library's official
notice of the date and time due, unless an item is called back earlier
for another reader. Borrowers are responsible for the return or renewal of
material on or before the due date or recall date; whichever is earlier.
NOTICES
Notices are courtesies. It is the reader's responsibility to know when material is due.
Notices are sent at intervals based on
the length of a loan (shorter periods for shorter loans)
in an attempt to deliver material quickly to the requesting reader.
The original borrower must respond promptly to recall notices.
Notices are emailed to addresses supplied by university
registrars and personnel offices. The reader is responsible for
notifying the library and these offices promptly of any change in address.
Failure to receive notices does not
affect the assessment of fines. Readers may check their
library accounts through the Orbis Your Library Account feature.
FINES
Fines are assessed beginning the first day an item becomes overdue at
the rate of $0.50 cents per day and $2.00 per day for items that have been
recalled for another reader. Fines for materials recalled for Reserve reading
use are $2.50 per day.
Overdue reserve material is assessed at 5 cents per minute for
2-hour reserves and $2.00 per hour for 24-hour reserves.
Recalled books: Overdue recalled books are subject to a fine of $2.00 per day.
Patrons are notified when an item has been recalled. Materials recalled for
reserve are fined at the rate of $2.50 per day if not returned to the library by
the recall due date.
Billing for lost or long-overdue material: Material that has not been returned 35 days
after the due date will be declared LOST automatically. The patron will be assessed
a Replacement Fee of a minimum $75.00 or more if the value of the material is greater
and a nonrefundable $20.00 Processing Fee, as well as the overdue fines. All charges
will be sent to the Bursar's Office for those patrons who have Bursar's accounts.
