The Sterling Memorial Library, Cross Campus Library, Social
Science Library, Mudd Library, Government Documents Information Center and
Library Shelving Facility hold materials that are part of our General Social Sciences
collection.
The collection includes monographs and serials that
represent the core study of the social sciences including the social
science research methodology, and general social science reference materials.
Collection development is based on the needs of the Yale University Social
Sciences departments and the Yale Higher Education community at large.
Most General reference materials are held at the Social Sciences Library.
A small collection is housed at the Sterling Memorial Library and Cross-Campus Library.
In-depth research materials in English are found at the Social Sciences Library
and foreign language materials at the Sterling Memorial Library. Data and statistics
are held and maintained through the Social Science Library’s Social Sciences
Data Archive and government statistics are located at the Government
Documents and Information Center.
Older and low use volumes are held at the Library Shelving Facility (LSF) and
Mudd Library; all of these materials may be requested via Eli Express. The Mudd
Library Stacks (38 Mansfield Street) are open to Yale affiliated users.
Most General Social Sciences materials fall under the Library of
Congress class H and older Yale classified materials under the range N.
Besides our English language volumes, the Yale University Library
collects foreign language Social Sciences materials for scholarly use
and study that represent innovative and seminal research internationally.
Our virtual collection and core database resources include the
Social Sciences Full-Text and Social Sciences Citation Abstracts via Web of Science.
A myriad of subject content databases cover a range of social
science subject areas. View the Social Sciences webpage for specific Social Sciences
subject guides and the General Social Sciences subject guide for details.
We also subscribe to a variety of full-text social science online journals and e-books.
