Searching Orbis for Electronic Resources
Orbis, Yale
University Library's online public access catalog, contains catalog entries
for electronic resources held by Yale University Libraries. These resources
include CD-ROMS, electronic
journals and online databases. The following search
strategies can be used to retrieve the catalog entries for these materials.
Note: Orbis is not case sensitive.
CD-ROMS
CD-ROMs held by Yale University Libraries can be retrieved in Orbis by author,
title or keyword searches. All CD-ROM titles held by Yale University Libraries
can be found by means of the following subject search:
S=CD ROMS
This search will generate an alphabetical index of all CD-ROM titles in the
catalog. A keyword search can be used to refine a search for these titles.
For example, the following search can be used to find CD-ROM titles that
pertain primarily to economics:
K=ECONOMICS AND CD ROMS
This search will return fewer entries than the previous search but will be
more precise. Additionally, this keyword search can be restricted by location.
For example:
K=ECONOMICS AND "CD ROMS"; Limit Collection By Library of Interest
This search will result in an index of catalog entries for CD-ROM titles
about economics housed in the Social Science Library.
About Orbis provides additional information for structuring keyword
searches.
ELECTRONIC JOURNALS
Catalog entries for electronic journals can be found in Orbis by author,
title or keyword searches. Additionally, all electronic journal titles can
be found by means of the following subject search:
S=ELECTRONIC JOURNALS
This search will generate an alphabetical index of all electronic journal
titles in the catalog. A keyword search can be used to refine a search for
these titles. For example, the following search can be used to find electronic
journal titles that pertain to economics:
K=ECONOMICS AND "ELECTRONIC JOURNALS"
This search will return fewer entries but will be more precise.
ONLINE DATABASES
Catalog entries for online databases can be found in Orbis by author, title
or keyword searches. Additionally, all catalog entries for online database
titles can be found by means of the following subject search:
S=ONLINE DATABASES
This search will generate an alphabetical index of all online database titles
in the catalog. A keyword search can be used to refine a search for these
titles. For example, the following search can be used to find online database
titles that pertain to economics:
