Curriculum and General Lesson Plan Resources Compiled by Education World, this site contains a review the year's top education news, original stories and a list of the year's best education web sites. Blue Web'n is a searchable library of web sites categorized by grade level, content area, and type. Blue Web'n is produced by the Pacific Bell Education First Fellows at San Diego State University's Department of Educational Technology. The Collaborative Lesson Archive (CLA) is intended to be a forum for the creation, distribution, and archival of education curricula for all grade levels and subject areas. CyberGuides: Teacher Guides & Student Activities CyberGuides are supplementary, web-based units of instruction centered on core works of literature. They are designed for the classroom with one online computer. Each CyberGuide contains a student and teacher edition, objectives, a task and a process by which it may be completed, teacher-selected web sites and a rubric. The Digital Education Network (DEN) contains grade 7-12 reading, writing, and math lessons. DEN enables teachers and parents to access timely content for classroom or home use and introduces students directly to the Internet education experience. The Discovery Channel School web site contains excellent resources to help educators teach science, social studies, language arts, and humanities to grades K-12. The site includes a resource finder and an index of lesson plans. Education Collection (via the Michigan Electronic Library) The Michigan Electronic Library (MEL) Education Collection contains Internet resources of interest to librarians, teachers, and students. Sites in the Collection are selected based on the relevancy, quality, and currency of the contents, and the navigability and ease of use of the site's design. GEM: The Gateway to Educational Materials The Gateway to Educational Materials project is a consortium effort, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education's National Library of Education, to create an operational framework to provide the nation's teachers with "one-stop, any-stop" access to substantial, but uncataloged, collections of Internet-based educational materials available on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites. GEM provides access to high quality Internet lesson plans, curriculum units and other education resources. Global Schoolhouse is a web site that contains a large database of global learning projects, the Link-O-Rama, a directory of schools who are using video conferencing and eight specialized HelpDesks. The Lesson Plans Page is a collection of over 2,000 lesson plans, primarily at the elementary level, that were developed by students and faculty at The University of Missouri. In addition, the Lessons Plan Page contains lesson plans that were submitted by the users of this website. MarcoPolo is a partnership between MCI WorldCom and five renowned educational organizations (American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Council on Economic Education, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Endowment for the Humanities/Council of the Great City Schools, and the National Geographic Society). These partnerships have resulted in six discipline-specific educational web sites. The web sites are geared primarily toward K-12 teachers, although some of the sites' resources are also appropriate for college-level work and for family activities. MiddleWeb provides links, resources, and original reporting for middle school teachers, parents, and others interested in raising student achievement and reforming middle grades education. The site emphasizes classroom assessment, academic standards and performance-based teaching. PBS TeacherSource features a constantly-growing inventory of more than 1,000 free lesson plans, teacher guides and online activities, most designed to complement PBS television programs. To help educators locate materials quickly, PBS TeacherSource groups its resources into six subject areas -- Arts & Literature, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health & Vocation, and TechKnow for Teachers -- and also offers subject, grade level and keyword searches. Additionally, the site offers teachers the ability to correlate PBS's Web content with 46 sets of national and state educational standards. PBS TeacherSource is a component of PBS Online. SchoolNotes.com is a community service which provides educators and school organizations such as PTA's a simple tool for communicating school information to students and parents anytime, anywhere. Homework assignments, weekly study topics, calendars of events, spelling words, reading lists, and other school information can be made available 24 hours a day by simply entering notes using a standard Internet browser. Teachers First contains extensive listings of web resources and lesson plans sorted by subject and grade level. The site also has an easy to follow Internet tutorial dealing with the web, browsers, and how to use them efficiently. A web site designed by teachers, for teachers. The goal of its creators is to provide basic teaching tips to inexperienced teachers (ideas that can be immediately implemented into the classroom), to provide new ideas in teaching methodologies for all teachers, and to provide a forum for experienced teachers to share their expertise and tips with colleagues around the world. Other Curriculum and General Lesson Plan Resources Education Policy Planning and Research Resources The AACTE (American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education) Education Policy Clearinghouse serves as an education research guide, helping researchers locate information about educational policy issues in the United States at the federal, regional, and state level. Additionally, the site posts educational news items and links to relevant online publications, policy agencies, and statistical resources. Users may also register for the Legislative Tracking Service, a device which monitors the latest developments in federal and state education legislation. ALPS: Active Learning Practices for Schools ALPS, Active Learning Practice for Schools, is an electronic community dedicated to the improvement and advancement of educational instruction and practice. The mission of ALPS is to create an on-line collaborative between teachers and administrators from around the world with educational researchers, professors, and curriculum designers at Harvard's Graduate School of Education and Harvard Project Zero. ATLAS Communities is a break-the-mold design linking elementary, middle and high schools--pathways--as partners in creating a consistent, personalized education in which all children achieve. By working together with the community-at-large, ATLAS schools enhance student development and promote deeper understandings of academics and the world around them. The Education Leadership Took Kit is a collection of tips and pointers, articles, case studies and other resources for education leaders addressing issues around technology and education. This web site is a project of the National School Boards Foundation implemented by NSBA's Institute for the Transfer of Technology to Education with a grant from the National Science Foundation. Harvard Project Zero is an educational research group at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Project Zero's mission is to understand and enhance learning, thinking, and creativity in the arts and other disciplines for individuals and institutions. McREL (the Mid-continent Regional Educational Laboratory) consists of three affiliated entities: the Laboratory, McREL Institute, and MCL, Inc.
